BIOGRAPHY

Lane Walkup (b. 1987) is a multidisciplinary sculptural artist whose practice spans large-scale installations to intimately scaled forms. Based in North Carolina, Walkup transforms industrial materials—primarily steel—into expressive, illustrative shapes, reimagining everyday objects through the lens of play and storytelling. With a signature approach that blurs the line between drawing and sculpture, she bends, welds, and manipulates metal into fluid, gestural compositions that imbue rigid materials with a sense of lightness and movement.

With over thirteen years of experience working across diverse mediums, Walkup’s practice extends beyond steel, incorporating unconventional materials such as recycled pantyhose and fabric to explore texture, form, and spatial relationships. Her work has ranged from monumental 27-foot installations to meticulously crafted bespoke objects, including a pair of silver glasses featured in one of Beyoncé’s recent albums. Walkup’s ability to scale her vision from immersive environments to intimate adornments underscores the breadth of her artistic language, making her a dynamic force in contemporary sculpture.
