biography
Rozek (b. 1992, Akron, Ohio) is a Los Angeles-based artist whose work is deeply informed by the staining techniques of early abstractionists and the Washington Color School. Drawing inspiration from these pivotal art movements, Rozek honors their legacy while pushing the boundaries of color field painting through his innovative approach.
Employing diluted oil on unprimed canvas, Rozek creates large-scale stain paintings that seamlessly blend unrestrained spontaneity with meticulous refinement. His layered, harmonious hues seep into coarse surfaces, establishing a visual rhythm that is both organic and intentional. By distilling abstract expressionism to its essence, Rozek crafts compositions of overlapping shapes and fluid bands of paint that shift between opacity and inviting warmth, resulting in works that resonate with both presence and depth.
Rozek earned a bachelor’s degree in studio art with a minor in drawing and painting from Ohio’s Myers School of Art, in 2017. Since then, Rozek’s work has been exhibited internationally in cities such as Istanbul, London, Miami, Los Angeles, and Amsterdam, earning him acclaim as a notable emerging figure in contemporary abstraction.
