ARDEN + WHITE GALLERY is pleased to present Rooms, the debut solo exhibition of German painter Kim Bartelt. Rooted in a profound appreciation for architecture—an influence shaped by her early studies in the field before transitioning to fine art at Parsons—Bartelt’s practice is an exploration of form, space, and materiality. Her visual language is characterized by a refined interplay of linear and geometric compositions, where squares and rectangles become meditative studies on balance, depth, and the fleeting nature of existence.
A defining element of Bartelt’s work is her innovative use of paper, not merely as a surface but as an integral textural component within her paintings on linen. Through meticulous layering and subtle shifts in opacity, she creates compositions that navigate the tension between structure and fragility, permanence and impermanence.
The artist's latest series is a contemplative dialogue between material and space, distilling architectural precision into painterly abstraction. Rooms will open in late April and remain on view through June 1st.
